About Us Introduction
THE ANGELUS STUDENT FILM FESTIVAL
"best bet for student moviemakers" (MOVIEMAKER MAGAZINE)
FROM THE DIRECTOR
So you’re a college-level/university/film school student and you’re looking for a few good film festivals to enter. Getting in to the right festivals can mean visibility, a showcase, prizes, cash (sometimes) and above all – a step toward a career in your chosen field.
Maybe you’ve heard of us from a past winner, a professor, a producer or a random tweet. Maybe you’ve seen our list of Angelus Alumni who’ve gone on to win Oscars, Sundance Jury prizes, Emmys and you’re curious. Or maybe you were trying to get to amazon.com and wound up here. Whatever the reason, we encourage you to take a few minutes and get to know us. Our vision speaks for itself. (see below.) But I also want to express how very seriously we take student film. Each animation, documentary, live action (drama and comedy) or hybrid is seen by at least 3 or more jurors before progressing to the next round. It takes a lot of patience and espresso, but that’s Angelus.
WHY YOU SHOULD ENTER
Our philosophy is simple—We are a not-for-profit student film festival bent on finding the best, and showcasing it to the world. We believe if you are that good of a filmmaker, you deserve a career and a leg up, and as wide of an audience as possible.
After 16 years, we have a knack for finding talent and Hollywood’s noticed. Winners receive ṻber visibility, select winners receive an all expense paid trip to Sundance and/or Europe for Angelus international and gobs of publicity. Not only are we fun to travel with, our wonderful sponsors believe in you enough to dole out fabulous cash awards and amazing prizes.
We keep the entry fee low, and communicate after each round and as often as possible because your time, your money and your project is valuable.
Our passion is the independent voice that focuses on the human journey. Do it with drama, laughs, with documentary or animation – just do it with excellence. It gets us up in the morning.
