January 24, 2006
Angelus Student Film Festival winning entries to be screened at college-level forum exploring the crossroads of faith and filmPARK CITY, Utah – The Angelus Student Film Festival, Hollywood will showcase two of its winning films for the second consecutive year in Park City, at 7 p.m. Jan. 27, at Mountain Vineyard, 1401 Kearns Blvd., during the second week of the Sundance Film Festival. The screenings will be followed by a Q&A-style discussion with the student filmmakers and actor Eric Roberts (TV’s Less than Perfect and A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints being screened at Sundance) who stars in one of the Angelus films.
The showcase is free and open to the public, including those in Park City for Sundance, though this is a separate event from Sundance. Transportation in Park City to the event is available via the Sundance shuttle, Route 21: PCT/Theatre Loop, Monitor Drive Parking Lot.
Two films from the 10th annual Angelus Awards ceremony will be shown: The Double, winner of the $2,500 Mole-Richardson Production Design and the $1,500 Act One Screenwriting awards, and Christmas Wish List, the $5,000 Priddy Bros. Triumph Award winner.
The Double’s filmmaker, Rani Demuth, UCLA School of Film & Television, and Roberts, the film’s lead actor, will answer audience questions following the screening. Sean Overbeeke, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, who made Christmas Wish List, will also answer questions following the screening of his film.
The event is being presented by the second annual Windrider Forum, exploring the intersection of faith and film for theological graduate and undergraduate Christian college students, and by Family Theater Productions, which created the Angelus Student Film Festival in 1996. The festival cultivates and honors future filmmakers as they explore and create works that respect the dignity of the human person.
Prize money totaled more than $25,000, including a grand prize of $10,000, for the festival’s 2005 awards ceremony, held last October at the DGA, Hollywood. MovieMaker magazine named Angelus as the “best bet” film festival for student moviemakers.
During the Windrider Forum, participants will screen and discuss a variety of Sundance films as well as the 2005 Angelus Fujifilm Audience Impact Award winner, Winning the Peace by Eli Akira Kaufman and Kori Shadrick, UCLA School of Film & Television.
Windrider is sponsored by Priddy Bros. Entertainment with partners Biola University, La Mirada, Calif.; the Colorado extension of Fuller Theological Seminary; Angelus Student Film Festival/Family Theater Productions; and Mountain Vineyard Christian Fellowship, Park City. The Angelus night is an opportunity for Windrider Forum and Sundance participants to view and discuss the winning Angelus films with the filmmakers and to bring members of Park City churches together with the students and other filmmakers and participants of Sundance.
Angelus Student Film Festival creator Family Theater Productions has produced from its Sunset Boulevard location for the last 59 years more than 900 dramatic and documentary TV and radio programs to entertain, inspire and inform families.
